Twitter Avatar and Background Lost

Twitter users woke up today morning (or night at some places of the world) to notice that their Twitter Logo and Background have disappeared and replaced by a new Twitter default bird logo and twitter background. What really happened? I made a quick search and see that Ben Parr from Mashable has already placed some updates
